by Patrick Grafton-Green

A man suspected of preparing to carry out a terror attack has been arrested at London City Airport.

Counter terrorism officers detained the 49-year-old when he returned to the UK from an undisclosed location on Thursday afternoon.

He was arrested on suspicion of the preparation of terrorist acts, contrary to section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

He has been taken into custody at a south London police station and has since been released on bail to return on a date in late July.

Officers also carried out a search at an address in Essex, which is now complete.

Enquiries continue.
