A number of people were stabbed near the London Bridge Friday afternoon in what is now being called a terrorist incident, authorities said.
One male suspect was shot by police and died at the scene, according to authorities, who added that a device believed to be a hoax explosive was strapped to the suspect.
A motive is not known.
"It has been confirmed that people were injured in the attack," London Mayor Sadiq Khan said in a statement. "My heart goes out to them, their families and all affected."
Some were "seriously" wounded, Khan told reporters. The number of injured was not clear.
Tor Caldwell and Patrick Brown, who were on a bus on the bridge at the time of the attack, "saw some commotion out the side of the bus" and heard gunshots, Brown told ABC News.
"People on the street were running," Caldwell said.
