In Kenya, JTIC recorded a total of three attacks in January at a daily average of 0.1 per day. No attacks were recorded in December. Compared to the preceding 12 months, this represented no change from the average 0.1 attacks per day recorded during this period.

The attacks recorded in January resulted in a total of 21 non-militant fatalities at a daily average of 0.7 per day. No non-militant fatalities were recorded in December. Compared to the preceding 12 months, there was an increase from the daily average of 0.1.

Attacks and Fatalities (IHS Markit)

The significant increase in non-militant fatalities compared to the 12-month average was driven by a single attack that targeted the 14 Riverside Road hotel, DusitD2 hotel and office complex in the Westlands district in the capital Nairobi on 15 January.
