Why US fears Putin success in Syria

The US and its allies would like to see Russia’s military operations in Syria go horribly wrong as Russia’s success heralds a crushing defeat for Western regime-change machinations. It would also signal the balance of power shifting away from US hegemony. Last week, US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter darkly predicted that Russia would suffer blowback from its intervention in Syria with acts of terrorism being committed on “Russian soil.” Within days for Carter’s pointed warning, Russian authorities arrested a jihadist cell in Moscow plotting terror attacks. This week, the Russian embassy in Damascus came under fire from two mortar shells – an attack which Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov quickly condemned as an act of terrorism. It might be assumed that Washington has taken some nefarious satisfaction over what appears to be a harbinger of the terror blowback Carter warned of. From the outset of Russia’s aerial bombing campaign against terror...

How Isis uses oil to fuel its jihad

On the outskirts of al-Omar oilfield in eastern Syria, with warplanes flying overhead, a line of trucks stretches for six kilometres. Some drivers wait for a month to fill up with crude. Falafel stalls and tea shops have sprung up to cater to the drivers, such is the demand for oil. Traders sometimes leave their trucks unguarded for weeks, waiting for their turn. This is the land of Isis, the jihadi organisation in control of swaths of Syrian and Iraqi territory. The trade in oil has been declared a prime target by the international military coalition fighting the group. And yet it goes on, undisturbed. Oil is the black gold that funds Isis’ black flag - it fuels its war machine, provides electricity and gives the fanatical jihadis critical leverage against their neighbours. But more than a year after US President Barack Obama launched an international coalition to fight Isis, the...

Multiple Terror Attacks in Jerusalem and Central Israel Leave 3 Dead

By:Haaretz, Barak Ravid, Nir Hasson, Yaniv Kubovich and Ido Efrati Twenty wounded in four shooting, car ramming and stabbing attacks in Jerusalem and central Israel • Netanyahu convenes security cabinet • dozens of Palestinians breach Gaza border fence. Violent tensions between Israel and the Palestinians peaked Tuesday with multiple terror attacks reported in Jerusalem and the central city of Ra'anana, leaving at least three Israelis dead and over 20 wounded. In the morning, a stabbing was reported in Ra’anana, followed by two separate attacks Jerusalem, followed by yet another attack in Ra'anana. Global Research Centre: Exponentially Rising Global Terrorism

By Stephen Lendman Washington’s war on terror is a war OF terror on humanity, largely responsible for exponentially rising incidents worldwide. The Global Terrorism Index (GTI) recorded around 18,000 in 2013, up 60% over the previous year – holding ISIS, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram in Nigeria and the Taliban most responsible. All are US creations. Washington’s so-called war to defeat terrorism increased it exponentially, what lunatics in Washington intended. GTI reported 3,361 incidents in 2000, up dramatically to 11,133 in 2012 and 17,958 in 2013, likely 20,000 or more when final 2015 figures are published. US imperialism bears full responsibility for the exponentially rising numbers. As long as US direct and proxy wars rage, expect terrorist incidents to keep rising annually. In 2013, 80% of terrorist fatalities occurred in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and Nigeria, said GTI. The Homeland Security-funded University of Maryland’s National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and...

In Chattanooga’s Wake, DHS Wants to Revive Terrorism Alert System

By Kevin Baron President Barack Obama’s top homeland security official has ordered a review of the nation’s terrorism alert system to reflect what he called the growing threat of attacks originating within the United States. The U.S. has never used the National Terrorism Alert System, a two-level system that replaced the oft-derided color-coded terrorism alerts installed after 9/11 to spread the word about potential attacks from abroad. But after a “homegrown violent extremist” killed five service members in Chattanooga, Tenn. — and amid the expectation of more terrorist-inspired attacks — the Department of Homeland Security wants to revise and jumpstart the system. “I’ve asked our folks to consider whether we should revise that system to accommodate how the terrorism threat has evolved,” DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson said Tuesday at the annual meeting of the Association of the U.S. Army in Washington, D.C.“That review is underway now.” Instead of the post-9/11 green-to-red progression, the NTAS...
